San Diego, Calif.–Following a successful debut in 2011, in which MS2-built bicycles won three awards, KVA Stainless’s MS2(TM) tubing will appear in abundance at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show, 2-4 March, in Sacramento, California, with several builders choosing to use the lightweight, attractive steel in a variety of different frame types.

NAHBS ArtBike! Exhibition on Display until March 4th

ArtBike! kicks off the NAHBS season in Sacramento
Event creates color, community and celebration

Sacramento, Calif.—ArtBike!, a street art/sculpture/installation art exhibition in support of the North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) is sweeping Sacramento with a indooor/outdoor display that started Saturday February 11th and runs until March 4th.

Two high points on the ArtBike! calendar are a party at Hot Italian, March 1, and then ArtBike! Sacramento’s Avante-Garde bicycle parade on March 3.

ArtBike! manager, Julia Beckner, said “Sacramento is such a bike-friendly community with a wealth of creative talent, I’m not surprised there is so much energy and enthusiasm for ArtBike! It’s great to see how many people are ready to step forward with creative expressions of their passion for including bicycles in a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.”

ArtBike! was created by NAHBS to help engage the local community and is open to all. It celebrates the vibrant cycling and artistic communities that made such a compelling argument for Sacramento to be this year’s host for the world-leading North American Handmade Bike Show in the Sacramento Convention Center, March 2-4.

Erik Noren (Peacock Groove) Tells All

2011 Show: Austin, Texas, Feb. 25-27

Introduction to NAHBS (this is for our many new subscribers)

nahbs intro

NAHBS showcases the talents of individuals around the world whose art form is the bicycle. It aims to be a meeting point for both frame builders and consumers looking for handmade custom bicycles, for the sharing of ideas, and the promotion of a special industry with a rich history dating back to 1819. One of the key features of NAHBS is bringing the frame builders together at social events outside show hours. This has been a feature of the show since its first year in 2005. Entering its seventh iteration, NAHBS has grown from a show with 23 exhibitors and 700 attendees in ’05, to 165 exhibitors and 7200 attendees.

Show Founder Don Walker Discusses The History of NAHBS
If you would like to hear the low-down on NAHBS straight from the horse’s mouth, catch Don Walker on WJCu’s The Outspoken Cyclist radio show on January 29. He talks about how he got into bikes, then into handmade bikes, into handmade bicycle shows, and then he tells us all about NAHBS. To listen, click the link. http://www.wjcu.org/media/audio/shows/outspokencyclist. The interview begins about 6 minutes into the show.

And coming up this Tuesday Feb. 8th, listen up for a NAHBS-related interview around 7 p.m. MST on Escape the Peloton on BicycleRadio.com. Either Don or one of the other exhibitors will be talking.

World’s largest show for handmade bicycles hits all-time high in Austin
INDIANAPOLIS–While bicycling continues to ride a wave of popularity across the USA, the bicycle-friendly city of Austin will see the largest assembly of handmade bicycle manufacturers in the modern history of the bicycle, February 25-27, at the seventh annual North American Handmade Bicycle Show, in the Austin Convention Center.

The founder and director of the roving annual bicycle show, Don Walker, said, “After all the hard work over the years it is rewarding to see the show continue to hit new highs. And Being a former resident of Texas, I am deeply pleased to bring the show back here, to the state where it began. Six years later, there is not a bicycle show on the planet that matches NAHBS for sheer quality, and precious few shows of any type present such a smooth interface between art and engineering. This is the largest presentation of the best in the custom bicycles industry anywhere, period. In the cycling world, it’s worldwide news. In Austin, we see great potential for this show to bring together the sporting, artistic, health, transport, and engineering communities.”

A total of 150 exhibitors from more than 20 US states and four continents have signed up for a booth at this year’s convention, and still more are expected. International exhibitors are traveling mainly from Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

The finest examples of manufacture, design and style in the bicycle world, will attract an expected 7,000 members of the public and 100+ journalists, who will have an opportunity to talk face to face with the builders.

The previous show record was set in Portland, Oregon, with 150 exhibitors and 7200 attendees. This year more than 160 exhibitors are expected.
